Celebrate Bayard Rustin’s 114th Birthday!

NYCAN (the New York Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) invites you to join us for a commemoration of Bayard Rustin’s life, and a re-dedication of our community to his vision for justice and peace in our world. 

On Bayard Rustin’s Birthday we gather to celebrate this angelic troublemaker, and to urge Mayor Mamdani and NYC Comptroller Mark Levine to implement Resolution 976 and INT 1621. As New Yorkers, it is imperative that we realign our priorities to our progressive values, both fiscally and morally. NYC’s unique disarmament legislation will send a powerful message to the world that we prioritize human needs over nuclear violence. 

We will be holding a simple ceremony, with words from community leaders, and in honor of Rustin’s Quaker tradition, a silent gathering open for everyone who may feel moved to speak if they are led by the Spirit.
