In 2021 the City Council passed legislation instructing NYC’s pension funds to DIVEST FROM NUCLEAR WEAPONS PRODUCERS, becoming a world leader in nuclear weapons abolition. The EXPIRATION of the New START TREATY has introduced a NEW NUCLEAR ARMS RACE.

Please contact our Mayor and Comptroller to call on them to implement City Council Resolution 976-2019, which calls on the city to divest NYC Pension Funds from nuclear weapons producers.

As a NYC citizen concerned by the alarming global build-up of nuclear weapons, I urge you to see that all NYC municipal pension funds fulfill City Council Resolution 976-2019 and divest NYC’s pension funds from 24 nuclear weapons producers as identified by the 2024 Don’t Bank on the Bomb report. NYCAN, the New York Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, presented research on these holdings to Comptroller Lander who has completed the first step – direct engagement. These immoral holdings fly in the face of the funds’ ethical covenants and represent a small, unstable percentage of their portfolios. We ask that you complete this work in a timely manner.
